The Stryker (or IAV Stryker (Interim Armored Vehicle)) is a family of 8-wheeled infantry fighting vehicle produced by General Dynamics Land Systems, and used by the United States Army since 2001. It is the first new armored vehicle to be in service since M2 Bradley in the 1980s. It is based on the Canadian LAV III.
The Stryker is named in honor of two American soldiers killed in service in two different wars and who received the Medal of Honor posthumously, one during the Second World War, the other during the war of Vietnam.
