More model informationThis slice of metal-rich impact breccia is from the Sudbury astrobleme (a deformed impact crater) located in Ontario, Canada. It was formed 1.85 billion years old. The slice is 8.8 cm across and 75 grams. The rock has a high metal content (hence the dark brown corrosion layer on the slice, which was once had a more pronounced silver sheen). It also contains nickel, presumably becaus this rock is a mix of terrestrial rock and impactor material. (Courtesy: M. Langbroek)
