Summer Camp Pottery 3D Model
One of the lessons FPAN takes to groups is a hands-on educational experience in understanding Florida’s prehsitoric pottery. Here, campers at the Wild Florida Explorers summer camp at Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake were able to try their hands at making prehistoric pottery using air dry clay. Campers heard about how archaeologists use pottery to understand regionality and temporality in the past, as well as how archaeologists can make inferences from information we collect from thousands and thousands of pot sherds. Information is the goal, after all! The campers were broken into groups and had to incorporate certain abstract symbols into their pottery based on the group we placed them in. Can you spot the different groups based on the visible decoration on these pots?
