Users cry into the device (generally for several sessions) and the tears are filtered equally into the vials. Once filled, the centrifuge spins the tears to seperate the desired liquid from the impurities. The impurities can then be siphoned off with an eyedropper and disposed. The remaining liquid is then boiled and evaporated by the gas burner at the base of the device, leaving salt as the final product. The salt is FDA approved and can be used for food and medicinal purposes.

The extractor is usually paired with a special bench which allows users to lay horizontally for easy access to the eye mask.
