The thyroid is one of the most radiation-sensitive parts of the human body.
The radiation limits in the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) are modeled based on the organ sizes of the Reference Man who is defined as “being between 20-30 years of age, weighing 70 kg, is 170 cm in height, and lives in a climate with an average temperature of from 10°C to 20°C. He is a Caucasian and is a Western European or North American in habitat and custom.”
Any other races, genders, ages, and sexes are vulnerable under this environmental law.
This thyroid attempts to grow into the standard size that is protected and in turn causing damage to itself. It is both a trace of violence and the material results of existing in an environment not designed for you.
This is part of my sculptural installation Golden Hour Bodies.
