This is a set of schematic 3D models to depict the differences in fabric between types of tectonites. Important aspects to notice are: 1. No lineation is present in the S-tectonite - the fabric is strictly planar. 2. In the SL tectonite, foliation is still dominant but a weak lineation is present on the foliation surface. Also note that the lineation is 1 dimensional and terminates at the end of the block rather than wrapping around like the foliation. 3. In the LS tectonite, lineation becomes dominant and the foliation is now only vaguely defined. 4. There is lineation only present in the L tectonite and no planar fabric is present.
Note that the purpose of these models is mainly depict the differences between foliation and lineation. The fabrics represented here are developed by the deformation of the original components of the ‘rock’ - spheres in this case. In most rocks the foliation and lineation are also defined by the growth of new mineral grains - in some cases these alone define the fabrics.
