Stone 12 at Temple Wood stone circle, Kilmartin Glen, Argyll.
There are a small number of hollows on the outwards facing surface of this stone. They do not appear to have been recorded previously, and it is not at all certain whether they are cup marks. They are similar to some of the marking on stone 7.
Ambiguous markings like these may, or may not, be artificial. What seems important to me is that they resemble cup marks. Therefore, they may have been significant in the Neolithic irrespective of whether they were made by people. It is interesting that all of the possible carvings at Temple Wood face outwards from the centre of the circle. The only exception is one half of the conjoined spirals on stone 9, which was incised across the edge of its stone.
The scale bar is situated on the side of the stone which faces away from the centre of the circle. N indicates True North.
