More model informationThe Apollo Theatre opened to the public on December 26, 1920 with Wanda Hawley in the American comedy film “Food for Scandal”. The theatre had a seating capacity of 1,000, and cost $175,000 to construct. It was originally heated by steam with a gas burning furnace. The playhouse was decorated with draperies of old rose to match the ivory and old rose interior color scheme.
The building remains in the Eastern district of Baltimore on Harford Avenue. Subsequent to the theatre closing in 1981, the building was converted into a church until the 2010s. The former Apollo Theatre currently remains vacant with no public city plans for restoration.
