The church Maria Immaculata& Mauritius-Gymnasium3D ModelNoAI
The Jesuit church “Maria Immaculata” in the middle of the city center of Büren is one of the most splendid baroque works in all of North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany).
According to plans by Franz Heinrich Roth, the church was built from 1754 to 1773 in the late Baroque style. The ceiling frescoes inside the church represent important moments in the life of the church patroness. They were kept in warm pastel tones and are perspective. This creates the impression that the church is open to the top and thus enables a view of the “Westphalian sky”.
Today the baroque church is one of the most important sights of Buren. Together with the former Jesuit college (Mauritius-Gymnasium) it forms an ensemble that has shaped the view of the city for over 250 years.
