This 3D model of my design for the play The Diary of Anne Frank was created prior to the construction of 1/2” scale model for International Thespian Competition [https://youtu.be/X_B0XM73gKU].
My design retained all 6 spaces of the real-life Annex and reflects accurate architectural details from that historic space. This set has only one entrance for performances, the stairs from below. In order to emphasize their entrapment, once they enter, the 8 actors portraying the inhabitants of the Annex would not leave the acting space until they are dragged away by the Nazi guards.
In my finished set, all flat surfaces (walls, floors, stairs) would be covered with enlarged renditions of Anne’s own writing in a subtle tone-on-tone color scheme. The words would also be painted in black light paint which would be illuminated after Otto’s final monologue which tells the fate of the eight people who hid in the Annex during those two years.
