The Duellers’ Shelter (Ennedi, Chad)Your model is disabled. For more details go to Edit properties3D Model
The internal sector of the Duellers’ Shelter ceiling corresponds to a detachment niche. Its concave lower border represents the implicit baseline of four cattle figures. The niche centre hosts an eye-catching scene composed of two duelling warriors, armed with spears and shields. The gestures of the two duelling warriors at the niche centre suggest the beginning of a fight. The left dueller is in an offending posture while the dueller to the right holds the shield above the head in a valiant exhibition. An imposing standing spear-bearer flanks these duellers while a couple stands in-between as they were spectators. Two warriors, perhaps in wait to engage, are present to the upper right. Two standing spear-bearers, a “howling” men and a group of seven women follow to the right side. The men may represent warriors in the backline, ready to defend the women. The isolated figure of a drum player present to the right suggests the duellers are engaged in a ritual or mock combat (processed by DStretch_YRD).
