The Four Seasons Mosaic

The mosaic was originally discovered in 1853 during excavation works at Tanner Row in York. It was one of three mosaics found in the house there.

A coin of Emperor Claudius Gothicus was found underneath the mosaic giving it a date of 268 AD onwards.

The mosaic originally portayed Medusa in the centre, surround by the four seasons, however it was damaged during the excavation process.
