This model represent 99 laser scans captured with a Leica HDS 6000 and modeled in 2011 by the Zamani Project at the University of Cape Town. The model was done by Christoph Held towards his MSc in Geomatics.
This 3D model of the Gereza Fort on Kilwa Island showcases what we achieved by 3D terrestrial laser scanning and modeling of high density point cloud scans to a solid mesh model (3D Model) in 2011.
The development of 3D laser scanner technology and the advanced modeling process of high resolution point clouds, especially the creation of 3D point clouds based on “Structure for Motion” (SfM) photogrammetry, is rising exponentially.
Having drone technology now available to us adds another level of detail to the 3D geometry in the form of high resolution texture. This can be seen in the following model which we captured and processed in 2018.
