More model informationThe ‘Great Wall of Brodgar’ is a huge construction that spans the isthmus on which the Ness of Brodgar archaeological site is located. Over 70 metres long, and 4 metres wide, it is a truly monumental piece of Neolithic architecture. It marks the northern boundary of the Ness of Brodgar building complex, and dates from the earliest phases of the site’s use, but steps set into the interior face suggest it served as more than just an enclosing wall.
This model only shows a tiny portion of the wall’s outer face, revealed in the 2023 excavation season.
