“For the year 1995, Egham District Council had decided to celebrate the 790th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta that took place in 1215 in the nearby fields of Runnymede. They approached the directors of the Burleighfield Foundry, the best bronze foundry of the day according to the Tate Gallery when I asked them, and I’m delighted to say that they recommended me as the sculptor of choice. I was to design a water feature complete with words from the Magna Carta and including a copy of King John’s crown and a Knight’s helmet.”
