More model information

Since first being recorded in the 19th century, the stone has acquired the moniker of ‘The Planets’ or ‘Planets Rock’, mainly due to motif arrangement. It’s referenced ‘IAG 295’ in Boughey & Vickerman’s 2003 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding’, where they describe:

‘…Thirteen cups, nine with rings, linked by grooves, with a further groove bordering much of the rock surface: the whole forms an attractive design and is best seen in strong low light. A flattened area may indicate erasure.’

The CSI: Rombalds Moor Project recorded the stone ‘Pancake Ridge 01’ on ERA in 2013.

This model shows additional motifs not previously drawn, including cups, a ring and grooves.

This decimated model was created from 9 stereo pairs captured by Richard Stroud (CSI Team) in July 2013. The imagery forms part of the HLF funded CSI: Rombalds Moor / Watershed Landscape Project archive.
