Area of outcrop found S of The Rigg, SW of Lartington, County Durham.
This quarried section is one of many areas of the same exposure of outcrop adorned with carvings separated by either fissures or turf coverage. Referenced 4 in Beckensall & Laurie’s 2008 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale’, the carving was added to ERA by NADRAP in 2008. Recording the section as ‘Lartington, The Rigg 6’ the NADRAP team describe several cups-like depressions and linear grooves, but weren’t 100% convinced by all the features artificiality.
