More model informationThe sand rain frog – Breviceps rosei This is a specimen from the research wet collections, preserved in ethanol. This frog cannot swim and is adverse to water. They live in underground chambers in sandy soils under plant litter. The tadpoles develop in jelly-like capsules surrounding the eggs laid in the chamber and ‘hatch’ as minute fully formed frogs. When alarmed they inflate their bodies into a ball often surprising gardeners when they disturb their chambers under leaf litter. SAM-ZR-0437314
