‘The things that we do’ is a global design project that explores the connection between behaviours and objects. Historically, the specific nature of everyday routines such as eating, sleeping, socialising and playing has affected the design of the objects that we use. The project begins in East Africa, the cradle of human civilization. It’s a collaboration between British design studio NEON and Kenyan furniture company 98 Crafted. Both NEON and 98 crafted are interested in how design is linked to a local culture, and are worried about homogenisation of cultures all around the world. Through the tradition of storytelling, they will discover and translate local habits into objects co-designed with artisans. The project is being be exhibited at Design Week Addis Ababa (11-17 February 2019) and Nairobi Design Week (17-23 March 2019).
