The Tomb of Seti I is one of the largest and most elaborately decorated tombs in the Valley of the Kings. It was constructed for Pharaoh Seti I, who ruled during the 19th Dynasty of the New Kingdom of ancient Egypt.
The tomb descends over 100 meters into the bedrock of the valley with an extra much deeper corridor in its depths that hasn’t been fully excavated. The burial chamber is the earliest vaulted ceiling, which depicts astronomical charts.
The tomb’s walls are painted with the netherworld texts, mainly the Book of Gates and the Amduat, but also including the Litany of Ra, the Opening of the Mouth, and the Book of the Heavenly Cow. I provide information about these scenes in the guided tour here:
