More model informationThe three-pronged arrowhead was different from the others. It has previously been thought that such arrowheads were used for fishing or bird hunting. However, experiments with a copy of Salme arrowhead showed that the object is very suitable as an incendiary arrow to be shot burning into the sail of an enemy ship. During the experiment, a linen cloth impregnated with lard and smeared tar, to which charcoal and birch bark were added, was used as the ignition material. The burning arrow managed to fly to a distance of more than 50 m.
