Thurgood Marshall was a Baltimore native and the first African American to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.
After winning a national competition for the commission, this sculpture was made by Reuben Kramer between 1977-1979. Today, it can be seen behind the Garmatz Courthouse overlooking the Inner Harbor in Baltimore.
