The Château de Thuriès is an old castle, located in the town of Pampelonne in France and listed as a historical monument since August 30, 1927.
The ruins are located on a peak dominating a meander of the Viaur, the river which separates the departments of Tarn and Aveyron. The site is easy to fortify, a very steep side being impossible to climb.
The construction dates from the 13th century at a strategic point: near the road leading from Toulouse to Rodez and Lyon. This strategic interest increased further during the Hundred Years War, when the Albi region belonged to the crown of France and the Rouergue to that of England.
