Timber and stone on wreck of Schiedam (1684) 3D Model
The Schiedam is a wreck from 1684 currently under investigation by our team off Cornwall in England. It is a fascinating site because the ship was carrying a guns and other material from the English colony of Tangier in North Africa. I took the photos for this model on a day of exceptional visibility and calm at the site, which is often swept by heavy seas. This shows a highly abraded length of ship’s timber, with carpentry visible at one end, and a block of marble about 80 cm long concreted to the seabed. The marble is ‘fossil black’ from Morocco and is one of a number of pieces of different types of Mediterranean marble at the site, probably the decorative elements of a fireplace or entranceway being taken to England by one of the former residents of Tangier.
