A quick napkin sketch by the Reebok designer @Nells18 on instagram caught my eye. He was inspired by a kid he knows who likes to draw cars, and I was inspired by both of them! This design started as an exercise to show “how quickly you can go from a 2D idea to a 3dsketch” in Gravity Sketch (that took 20 minutes)… then I couldn’t stop. About 40 hours later, it resulted in the previous NURBS based model (here: https://skfb.ly/6Sxrq) I decided to revisit this concept and retopologize it using Gravity Sketch’s SubD toolset. In the redesign, I fixed an ingress/egress issue and completely changed the roofline/door opening. Elements were added (and subtracted) all around the vehicle. It’s been tremendous fun pushing myself, while trying to maintain the gesture of the original sketch. Modeled entirely in VR using Gravity Sketch. The entire notion of an “exploded view” changes when working in VR… as it goes so far beyond its 2D counterpart.
