More model informationTitterstone Clee, in south-eastern Shropshire (UK), was quarried in the 19th and 20th centuries for dolerite (known locally as ‘dhustone’).
This model is of part of Titterstone West Quarry, which was opened in 1881 and worked until the 1960s. An inclined plane linked it to the crushing plant at Bitterley at the bottom of the hill; this in turn was connected to the mainline railway between Shrewsbury and Hereford. The site contains some early stone buildings from the 1880s, but is dominated by the reinforced concrete crushing plant built in 1910.
