To Pin a Butterfly 2018 In new and discarded plastics, light, filters and perspex.
Progress is seductive but without empathy, compassion and a framework for ethical decisions, ‘progress’ becomes a separate entity; enslaving rather than liberating and this is where my work finds its inspiration- the possibility of a future in which our Natural World is once more seen as a collective home and all our fellow inhabitants as equal occupants. I am seeking a visual that speaks of a liberating version of Huxley’s prophetic ‘Brave New World’. In this futuristic Utopia, liberated by AI from the shackles of jobs created by The Industrial Revolution, we may at last, be free to develop our brain-computer minds in our bio-engineered bodies, as we take a walk through a natural world, which was perfectly engineered to start with and has been allowed, once again to find its ecological balance.
