More model informationAn Roman funerary altar displayed on the square outside the parish church of St. Peter in Komenda (Upper Carniola, Slovenia). The monument is badly eroded and the inscription on the front is, for the exception of a few letters, illegible.
The altar was on the sides decorated with relief depictions of two dolphins. We often find depiction of dolphins on Roman funerary monuments and it is believed that they symbolize the journey of the deceased souls (manes) across the ocean into the afterlife.
