Tomb stone for Malcom Sinclair, Fort Charlotte3D ModelNoAI
This is a tomb stone from the grave of Malcolm Sinclair of Quendale, who died January 6th, 1618. The inscription on this slab is quite peculiar - the lines are arranged in proper order, but each line has been turned upside down. To read properly, one must stand at the head of the stone and read towards the foot from the bottom upward.
It reads: Aetatis svae 73 / 6 ianvarii 1618 / ndale qvi obiit / sinclair de qve / vir malcolmus / pivs ac [bon]vs / hic dormit
Translated it reads: ‘Here sleeps a devout and good man, Malcolm Sinclair of Quensdale, who died 6th January 1618, in the 73rd year of his age’.
This is one of three tomb stones from Quendale Church now held at Fort Charlotte. To learn more about Fort Charlotte, visit our website.
