More model informationThis is a poor model of topaz crystals in a seam in a volcanic rock from Utah. You will have to trust me when I say that the sample is pretty spectacular. The topaz crystals appear clear and gemmy in hand specimen.
The reason this model is poor is because standard phtogrammetry cannot do well with transparent crystals. The software tries to paint the surface of the crystals and cannot resolve features within that look different from different angles. I do not think there is any practical solution to this problem using software that stitches together many individual photographs.
