More model informationThe Tower Bell is a 3,000 pound (1,360.8 kg) bell located at San Jose State University. The bell was cast in 1881 to commemorate the California State Normal School. It was rung at 8 a.m. every day until an earthquake in 1906. It was then reinstalled in 1910 in then-new Tower Hall, but was only rung on special occasions. Concerns over earthquakes led to the bell being removed from the tower and installed at ground level in the early 1960s.
