The castle of Zafra stands over a rocky promontory near the village of Campillo de Dueñas, in Guadalajara, Spain. Its origins probably date back to the Celtiberian or earlier, beginning its fortress role under the Visigoths rule or afterwards during the Muslim occupation. Reconquered by the Christian kingdom of Aragon in 1129 A.D, the castle was the most relevant stronghold of the surrounding lands all through the petty wars that took place in between those warring Christian factions until the 15th century, when its decay started.
