Toy theatre, Alfred Jacobsens C-teater, 1880-813D Model
Danish toy theatre by Alfred Jacobsen, after the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen. It was published in “Suffløren” 1880/81 (improved in 1910, restored 1965). On the scene, you see the play “Fra Gaden”. Accession nr: GRM 4.
This toy theatre is part of a larger collection preserved by Sörmland Museum. These model theatres are often made of paper. However, only imagination and creativity set the limits for how the theatre and the plays can be designed: the collection at Sörmland Museum includes theatres with parts made of cardboard, wood, glass and plastic. Some are so small that they fit into a matchbox and others so large that they easily fill a doorway.
