More model information

Danish toy theatre by Alfred Jacobsen from the 1890s. It is designed after the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen. On the scene, you see the play “Dusør udloves” (published later than the theatre). Accession nr: GRM 6252.

This toy theatre is part of a larger collection preserved by Sörmland Museum. These model theatres are often made of paper. However, only imagination and creativity set the limits for how the theatre and the plays can be designed: the collection at Sörmland Museum includes theatres with parts made of cardboard, wood, glass and plastic. Some are so small that they fit into a matchbox and others so large that they easily fill a doorway. An article on our website (in Swedish) dives deeper into this specific collection and the history of toy theatres: https://www.sormlandsmuseum.se/utforska/att-vara-manniska/modellteatrar/artikel/
