Toyoda Sakichi 豊田 佐吉 - The first Toyota Patent - patent Nr. 1195, 1891 - LOOM
Toyoda Sakichi received his first patent at the age of 23.
He is the founder of Toyoda Loomworks (now Toyota Industries Corporation TICO) and father of Toyoda Kiichiro the founder of Toyota Motor Corporation which was spun off from Toyoda Loomworks.
He improved a loom common in Japan at the time by automating the shuttle guide. This led to a 40 to 50% more efficient utilization of the loom, and also improved the fabric quality.
Toyoda Sakichi went on to develop many patents for looms and built the first Japanese-made Power Loom. In 1924, Toyoda invented the Type-G Toyoda automatic loom with non-stop shuttle, the first of its kind in the world.
As a result of Toyoda’s inventions, the quality of Japanese looms and textile products rose to an internationally competitive level.
