Triosephosphate Isomerase (TPI) is an anaerobic glycolysis enzyme that is ubiquitously expressed in all cells. The fascinating enzyme is able to catalyse the reversible interconversion of triose phosphate isomers, dihydroxyacetone phosphate and glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate (Wikipedia, 2022). The physiological function of the enzyme is to adjust the high-speed equilibrium between dihydroxyacetone phosphate and glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate produced by aldolase in glycolysis (pubmed, 2006).
