A trilobite of the genus Phacops. Trilobites are a group of arthopods that form their own Class Trilobita, named for the three main body portions that make up a trilobite. Trilobites are one of the earliest groups of arthropods first showing up around 521 million years ago (Early Cambiran). A very successful group, trilobites lived in the oceans of our planet for almost 300 years before the final group went extinct at the end of the Permian, 252 million years ago.
