Trombone Played by Melvin H. Williams In Gibbs High School Marching Band from 1932 to 1964
In Melvin’s words: “It was a time of youth and excitement to perform in the Gibbs High School Marching Band. To play my trombone and read music at a high level, gave me a sense of accomplishment, while at times marching right in front formation. We sought to be like a FAMU Marching Band. To do so gave us a sense of pride in the segregated 1960s, while displaying the self-worth taught to us by our all Black teachers and band directors.”
