This chhod pata is one of the oldest in this collection, most likely created during the Mughal period. The two male figures display the dress and manner of attendants at the royal courts and hold in their hands fly whisks and flag staffs. Both of these are royal symbols and two of the eight miraculous images to appear at the time of a Jina’s omniscience; they are often depicted around the images and icons of the Jina. In this pata, the presence of a Jina is assumed by the tree formed by the floral vine-like patterning in the center, between the attendants… [see annotations for continued text]
