More model informationThis is a high-resolution Digital Outcrop Model of the Uai_Uai ChemCam and MAHLI target in the Contigo member of the Mirador formation of Gale crater, Mars.
This model is made using 4 photos taken by the MAHLI instrument positionned on the robotic arm of the Curiosity rover.
These images were taken on sol 3531, on July 13th 2022, and are available on the JPL MSL Raw images archive..
This fine sandstone shows a sulfate-rich composition, similar to what is seen from orbital observation in this region. As the MAHLI images were taken after the ChemCam LIBS experiment, we can clearly see on the model the pits in the rock left by the laser where the rock was burnt into a plasma.
Model by Gwénaël Caravaca.
