More model informationThe German U-boat UC32 was laying mines off the mouth of the River Wear at night in early 1917, with 22 crew members on board and in just 12 metres of water, when she was struck by her own mine.
The wreck today sits in 3 sections scattered across the seabed, one of which can be found approximately 10 metres away from the U-boat’s periscope which still sits on the seafloor. When the wreck was first discovered in 1980, the periscope was still alongside the main body of the wreck.
The UC32 was modelled by divers from Sunderland SCUBA Centre.
