More model informationAlthough comparable to some axeheads, this artefact is most probably an unfinished Neolithic macehead. It has been manufactured from a cobble of quartzite that was previously used as a polloisoir. This artefact was found in the late 19th century at ‘Saveroch [Saverock], St Ola’.
This artefact formed part of James Walls Cursiter’s (1851-1939) extensive collection of prehistoric artefacts from Orkney and Shetland. This collection was donated to the Hunterian Museum c.1914.
