More model informationThis is a unicorn located on the ridge of the roof of the Great Hall at Stirling Castle. It was installed in 1999. It shares the ridge with one other unicorn and two lions.
The designs were based on surviving examples of ridge beasts on the Palace at Stirling Castle, and on evidence from early etchings that indicated that there had been ridge carvings.
The carving was kept bold and slightly foreshortened to suit the distance and angle that they would be viewed from.
The ridge beasts weigh over three-quarters of a tonne each.
