Competition Entry July 2016 - A typical Typology in the Venetian Lagoon is the Fondamenta. It is the device that allows the docking of boats along the densely built city, generating the exchange of goods and of people.This project shows that the Fondamenta is also the appropriate language to use in Poveglia. It will evolve as Backbone of the archipelago, allowing docking for visitors and a longitudinal axis for dwellers on which to move. The marina will be placed on the secondary channel, while visitors will arrive by Vaporetto on the main square. As it happens with all campuses, the number of students will fluctuate with the semester terms. The campus shall be able to accommodate both extremes. While the wide landscape of the lagoon is imposing, the project proposes an introverted situation, to create an atmosphere of cosiness, necessary for the campuse’s function. The new buildings are therefore aligned perpendicularly the the Fondamenta, forming a dense strip of smaller spaces.
