Upper Wharfedale, Limestone Terrace 3D Model
This limestone terrace sits around 373m OD and can be found on the mid slopes above Kettlewell, North Yorkshire. The terrace modelled here runs approximately 314 metres north - south and is bounded by post medieval walling at either end. Lines of stones forming denuded enclosures can be seen across the narrow ridge, mainly at the central and southern end. Typology suggests the enclosures are most likely Romano British onwards in date, but various lithic finds from recent years opened the possibility that the site may stretch further back.
In August 2018, this site was excavated as part of a doctoral research project which had the aim of determining dates of activity. A series of six test pits and two larger trenches put across what appeared to be a hut circle and an orthostat.
The pit / trench boundaries have been annotated on the model, along with further info about the finds.
