In the design process of the North Carolina-class battleship, a design scheme for the Full Front of the main gun appeared. This plan including Project-D, a plan with a displacement of 40,500 tons.
Equipped with three triple-mounted 406mm Naval guns and All Front-Mounted.
The Project-D was born out of the House Armed Services Committee dissatisfaction with the design of the former 25,000-ton small battleship.
After the design standard returned to the 35,000 ton class, the Bureau of Construction and Repair proposed five 35,000 tons construction plan.
But then the United States House Committee on Armed Services decided to proceed from the initial plan A (high speed, weaker firepower and protection) and plan B (better protection performance, but lower speed) for the next step construction.
Especially the plan B —— the final plan of the North Carolina level is derived from the continuous modification and evolution of this plan.
