US Navy Eagle-class Patrol Craft Shipwreck

This shipwreck is an Eagle-class patrol craft built for the US Navy by Ford Motor Company. Designed to be mass-produced on an assembly line, the class were developed during WWI, but production delays prevented the vessels from being delivered until after the war. Eagle Boats, as they were known, saw limited use by the US Navy in the inter-war years. Many were sold to foreign navies or transferred to the US Coast Guard. This shipwreck’s particular ID # (Eagle Boats were not named) has not been determined yet.

Located in Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, University of Miami and NOAA researchers documented the site during a project in June 2021. Project funding was provided through a grant from NOAA’s Office of Ocean Exploration.
