More model informationUschebtis are small, mummylike figures, which were given as burial gifts in the Egyptian cult of the dead. Their task was to act as an “answerer” on behalf of the dead when they were called upon to do the mostly menial work they were asked to do in the underworld. The Ushebtis from Carnuntum were probably given to people from Egypt as burial objects or imported as curiosities. Ceramics; h 8,9 cm; 7th-4th century B.C.
