The USS Alamo was designed with one single purpose. To protect a Carrier Strike Group from long-range hypersonic missiles. To accomplish this the ship uses a combination of Over the Horizon Radar, Data-links with other ships and advanced Anti-missile weapons. The Alamo’s Oracal Over the Horizon AESA Radar provides the ship with a commanding view of nearly 200nm. Combined with an advanced data-link, connecting the Alamo’s radar image with that of all other ships in a given fleet, the ship can create an incredibly complete and high-resolution image of the entire battlespace. This is required to intercept Hypersonic missiles as even if the ship detects them at its maximum range of 200nm it will still have only 118 seconds to react before impact.
