In the late 2050’s the United States Navy found itself in an awkward position in terms of its surface fleet. While it had recently acquired 2 NATO class Battleships and 27 of the new Constitution II class destroyers it was still lacking in the area of dedicated anti-shipping platforms. While both the NATO and the Constitution II where capable in this regard they were decidedly multi-role in their docturine and while U.S. carriers were traditionally the go to for any surface engagements, advancements in Chinese and Russian air defenses made this option less viable by the year. And so the United States began the CG-XX program in 2057, aimed at acquiring a new cruiser dedicated to anti-surface warfare. The resultant design, Bethlehem Steel Works Project P900, was selected in March of 2059 and would become the U.S.S Boston designated CG/RN-01 as the U.S. Navy’s first Nuclear Guided Missile/Railgun Cruiser.
